Configuring SoftTouch with hardware

Please follow these steps in order to configure SoftTouch for use with hardware:

  1. Very important: Make sure Dialogic drivers are STOPPED in the Dialogic Configuration Manager (DCM).
  2. Configure all Dialogic hardware in the DCM. If you are using dual-span digital cards, be sure to configure both spans. If you need assistance with Dialogic driver configuration, please contact support.
  3. Run SoftTouch and configure the hardware options in the “Configuration Screen” as described in the section below.
  4. Shut down SoftTouch
  5. Start your Dialogic drivers
  6. Run SoftTouch
  7. If all channels were added correctly, make sure you configure individual channel settings in the “Channels Screen”. Generally, the only option needing to be changed in that screen is the “Monitoring” option. See the discussion in the "Channels Screen” documentation for more information.
  8. If for some reason channels are not configured correctly after running SoftTouch with drivers loaded or you add or change hardware, you will need to delete all the channels in the “Channels Screen” and then follow the above steps again. It is possible to add or remove channels, however, it is often easier to delete them all and let SoftTouch add them back again. Do not forget to reconfigure each channel for any individually desired settings after the channels have been added.

While SoftTouch will detect the type and number of Dialogic cards installed in your computer, it is necessary to tell SoftTouch exactly how many of those cards you wish to use, how many channels to use, and which type of cards are to be used. There are several configuration options that are used to control hardware and associated features.

Note: You cannot use analog (regular phone lines) and digital (ISDN PRI or ROBBED BIT) hardware at the same time. You must choose one or the other.

Note: Be sure to see options 819 and 820 to make sure your hardware drivers have enough time to load when your computer boots up.

See the "configuration Wizard" documentation for more extensive information on configuration options.

Recommended settings for analog hardware using out-dial (personal phone feature), analog hardware using live conferencing, digital hardware (ISDN PRI) and digital hardware (ROBBED BIT) are listed below. If the “Recommended Setting” and the “Default Setting” are the same, you do not need to make any change to the configuration option. The information is given for reference in case your system uses settings that are not as common. If you live outside of the US, configuration options may need to be set differently and you should contact support. Additional notes are provided below the configuration options. If configuration options do not apply and the default system settings are needed, they will not be listed.

Additional Notes:

1:  Options 700-719 control hangup disconnect tones. If your local phone company supports “loop current drop detection”, these options should not be set. Some foreign countries do not offer “loop current drop detection” and therefore an alternative method of detecting when people hangup is necessary. If you are not sure how your phone company detects hangups, you should contact support for assistance. Also see option 807.

2:  The values you use for options 750-753 will depend on your local phone company and/or phone switch at your location. You will need to consult with your phone company or phone switch manual in order to determine what (if any) special digits need to be dialed in order to initiate conference calls (3-way-calling).

3:  Most phone companies require the phone to ring at least two full times before callerid information is available. If you have difficulty with callerid, you will need to ask your phone company for more specifics.

4: See notes for 750-753. You will need to consult your phone company or phone switch manual in order to know if it is possible to do a “true transfer”. In some cases, your phone line can be freed up to take additional phone calls by hanging up the original phone line used to make an outbound call. In this case, the phone company takes over the call conference. This feature is most often associated with CENTREX type analog phone service.

5: This option depends on the models and quantity of the hardware you have installed. For each card you have installed, you need to add that many additional channels to the count. The number of channels you are licensed for must be at least as many as the value you enter into option 812. If the number of channels supported by your hardware exceeds your licensing, you should put your licensing count into configuration option 812. For example, if you are licensed for 30 channels and have 32 channels of hardware, you should use 30 for option 812. Example settings for option 812 are:

Number of cards                     Model                         Value to use

1                                             D/21D                         2

2                                             D/21D                         4

1                                             D/41ESC                     4

2                                             D/41ESC                     8

1                                             D/160SC-LS                16

2                                             D/160SC-LS                32

1                                             D/240SC-T1                23

2                                             D/240SC-T1                46

1                                             D/480SC2-T1              46

2                                             D/480SC2-T1              92

1                                             D/300SC-E1-120        30

2                                             D/300SC-E1-120        60

1                                             D/600SC-2E1-120      60

2                                             D/600SC-2E1-120      120

6: This will be the number of Dialogic cards installed in your computer and active in the Dialogic Configuration Manager (DCM).

7: Unless you have a specific reason to bypass 1 or more cards that would normally be initialized first, you should leave this setting at 1.

8: If callerid is available on your phone lines, you can set this to YES. If you are not sure or you do not have callerid, leave this setting as NO. You can always add callerid to channels later by going to the “Channels Screen” and activating callerid for each channel.

9: If DNIS service is available on your ISDN PRIs, set to YES. If it is not available or you are not sure, set this option to NO.

10: If ANI service is available on your ISDN PRIs, set to YES. If it is not available or you are not sure, set this option to NO.

11: If you want SoftTouch to monitor the B channel of your ISDN PRIs, set this option to YES. If a B channel is not functioning correctly, an email can be sent to notify you if you have options 922-930 configured. If you are not sure if the B channel should be monitored or if you do not want it monitored, set this option to NO.

12: If you want SoftTouch to monitor the D channel of your ISDN PRIs, set this option to YES. If a D channel is not functioning correctly, an email can be sent to notify you if you have options 922-930 configured. If you are not sure if the D channel should be monitored or if you do not want it monitored, set this option to NO.

13: DNIS and ANI are not available in ROBBED BIT SoftTouch systems. ROBBED BIT support is expected to be removed in future versions.

14: Consult your phone provider for appropriate settings. ROBBED BIT support is expected to be removed in future versions.
